Make a Difference With One Kind Act a Day on April 12th

Categories: Engage News

Mark your calendars! April 12th isn’t just another day—it’s “One Kind Act a Day” day. April 12th is pretty special to One Kind Act a Day. Our organization started on April 12th, 2022. Governor Spencer Cox even declared it as Utah’s “One Kind Act a Day” day, and the next year the State Legislature adopted that resolution in perpetuity.

So, every year we celebrate our anniversary by encouraging our Communities of Kindness to focus on the powerful impact of kindness. After all, a single kind act can brighten someone’s day, spread positivity, and even improve your own well-being.

Whether it’s a heartfelt compliment, a simple service, or a small supportive gesture, deliberate acts of kindness have the potential to transform lives. And so, we’re inviting you to join a global movement to make an additional push for kindness on April 12th

The Power of Intentional Kindness

Sometimes, acts of kindness happen by chance, like randomly holding the door open for someone. But you don’t have to wait around for an opportunity to fall into your lap. Imagine the impact if you made kindness an intentional daily practice. For example, those touched by kindness are inspired to spread it themselves. It just takes a small action to create this ripple effect!

When individuals make the commitment to daily kind acts, the results can be wide reaching. Relationships strengthen, communities grow closer, and individual mental health improves. Research published in the Journal of Social Psychology confirms that engaging in acts of kindness not only makes others happier, but it significantly boosts your own mood and mental health too!

Being deliberate about kindness toward others builds habits that will help change your outlook on life far beyond April 12th. It will set the stage for positive, long-term change. This April, pledge to perform one deliberate act of kindness each day, starting with “One Kind Act a Day” day.

Easy and Impactful Acts of Kindness

Need some inspiration for getting started? Here are some simple but powerful ways to spread kindness this April 12th and beyond.

  • Support a small business by leaving a glowing review or giving a shoutout on social media.
  • Write a thank-you note to someone who has positively impacted your life.
  • Drop off food or supplies at a local shelter.
  • Compliment a stranger on something that impressed you, whether it’s their outfit, smile, or actions.
  • Help the environment by organizing or participating in a neighborhood cleanup.
  • Offer to babysit or assist a friend who could use an extra hand.

These acts can take as little as a few moments, but they make a lasting impression. By contributing to someone’s happiness, you’re creating tiny sparks that can lead to big changes.

Share Your Kindness to Keep It Going

Why stop at performing kind acts behind the scenes? Share your experience!

On April 12th, capture your kind acts with a photo, video, or heartfelt caption and share them on your favorite social media platform. Even if all you did was help a neighbor carry in groceries, snap a picture together to remember the moment and share how it felt. Use the hashtag #OneKindActADay to spread positivity and encourage others to join the movement.

Studies show that witnessing or hearing about acts of kindness inspires people to pay it forward. Sharing your story not only lifts others up but also builds a community of people committed to doing good together.

Think about it. Your single post about buying a cup of coffee for a stranger could inspire dozens of others to do the same. That’s what we call kindness in action!

Take the Pledge of Kindness

Don’t stop at a single act. Join the One Kind Act A Day movement by taking the Pledge of Kindness. It’s straightforward, powerful, and completely free. When you take the pledge, you declare your commitment to making kindness a deliberate, daily practice.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Visit thepowerofkind.org
  2. Sign up by entering your name, email, and location.
  3. Share your pledge with others to inspire them to take part too.

Once you’ve pledged, you’ll become part of an inspiring community of kindness champions. You’ll also receive reminders, resources, and plenty of ideas to keep kindness an active part of your daily life.

Kindness Is Contagious—Make It a Habit

April 12th might be the official day to celebrate One Kind Act A Day, but don’t stop there! Imagine what the world could look like if we all committed to one deliberate act of kindness every single day. It’s not only about making others feel good but also about creating a kinder and more connected world.

Your challenge? Don’t just celebrate kindness for one day; turn it into a lifelong practice. Pledge to commit to kindness beyond April 12th. Start small by performing one kind act every day and watch positivity spread through your actions.

Together, we can create a movement powered by small gestures, big hearts, and meaningful change.
